Patriotic Build for Kids: How to Make a U.S. Flag with Biggo Blocks

Get ready to spark some red, white, and woohoo! this 4th of July! If you’re looking for a hands-on way to teach your kids about Independence Day while keeping them engaged and off screens, this festive flag project is just the thing.

Using jumbo building blocks, kids can build their very own jumbo American flag. It’s simple, educational, and packed with patriotic pride.

Whether you’re decorating for a BBQ, celebrating with family, or just want to add some star-spangled fun to the summer, this easy activity is the perfect mix of creativity, learning, and holiday cheer.

What You’ll Need:

To build a U.S. flag, gather the following Biggo Block colors:

  • (Optional) A flat surface or play mat for building

We recommend using Single Color Sets from Biggo Blocks to get the exact shades you need for your theme.

Build Breakdown: Simple U.S. Flag with Biggo Blocks

The American flag has 13 stripes and a blue square in the top-left corner (called the union). For younger kids, you can simplify this into an easy-to-follow grid that focuses on pattern recognition and color sorting.

Step-by-Step:

  1. Create the Stripes

    • Lay down 10 rows of alternating red and white jumbo blocks, starting with red.

    • The bottom 4 rows will have 5 blocks, while the top 6 rows will have 3 blocks each with the last 2 rows being all red blocks.

  2. Build the Union (Blue Square)

    • In the top-left corner, place 6 rows of blue blocks over the red and white rows.

    • Each blue row should be about 2 blocks long, forming a square.

  3. Optional: Add Stars

    • If you have decals or white pegs, place them on the blue blocks to represent stars.

    • Or simply count out loud how many stars should go there for a fun learning moment!

This build is great for hand-eye coordination, color matching, and basic math skills like counting and symmetry.
