Water is one of our planet’s most valuable resources, but let’s be honest—getting kids excited about conservation can feel as tricky as convincing them that homework is fun. The good news? Hands-on learning makes everything more engaging! And what better way to dive into the topic than with Biggo Blocks?
Let’s celebrate World Water day by helping kids learn about water, why it matters, and how they can do their part in conserving water. Here are some creative ways to do that with their favorite jumbo blocks from Biggo Blocks.
Build an Aqueduct: The Original Water Highway
People all over the world have easy access to water these days thanks to modern plumbing. But have you ever thought about how people in the past got to water? Back then, they built aqueducts to transport water from one place to another. Think of them as the original water slides for cities! Kids can build their own aqueduct using jumbo building blocks by stacking them into a raised waterway with a slight slope. To demonstrate how water flows and how gravity pushes water downward, roll a ball down the “stream”.
This activity teaches kids the concept of water flow and why it’s important to conserve and use water wisely before it reaches lakes, rivers, or oceans.
Creating a Mini Reservoir
Ever wondered where water from the tap comes from? Our water comes from reservoirs which store water so we can use it when we need it. Kids can learn about this concept with jumbo blocks too. Have them build their own reservoir building an enclosed space with extra large building blocks and filling it with blue blocks to represent stored water. To demonstrate how water is moved from reservoirs to your house, make tiny holes in the enclosed construction and construct routes out of blocks that resemble "pipes."
With this activity, kids can learn that water is limited and that it's crucial to practice water conservation, just like shutting off the faucet when brushing their teeth.
Teaching Kids The Water Cycle
Through evaporation, condensation, precipitation, and gathering, the water cycle keeps the water on Earth moving. Kids can model this process by building a Biggo Blocks mountain where water collects as snow, then placing blue fabric to represent rivers and lakes. To bring the cycle to life, have kids act out each stage—one as the sun (evaporation), another as a cloud (condensation), and someone else as rain (precipitation).
This activity helps kids understand that water never disappears—it just changes form. Protecting lakes, rivers, and oceans ensures we always have clean water to use!
Why This Matters: Play with a Purpose
Kids love playing, and with the help of Biggo Blocks, kids can learn while playing. By introducing concepts of water conservation through hands-on learning with extra large building blocks, kids can better understand why water is precious and why every drop counts.
Encourage your little builders to think big, build bigger, and make water-smart choices—because what they learn today will help shape a better tomorrow!
